The Economic Management sub-division of SFA's Fisheries Economic Information division is responsible for the proper economic analysis, development, and management of the fisheries industry in Seychelles. Its main duties are the coordination and assistance in the preparation of Fisheries Sector development as an integral part of the National Planning Process. In addition, it is responsible for providing SFA with research and management plans so as to achieve the desired fisheries management objectives, as well as undertaking economic evaluation of the contribution of the fisheries sector to the national economy. The Economic Management sub-division works in close collaboration with the Fisheries Management Division to achieve the overall objectives of the SFA.

The responsibilities of this division are:

  1. Assisting in the drafting of fisheries policy and cabinet papers;

  2. Undertaking feasibility studies for the projects associated with the fishing industry;

  3. Monitoring the economic benefits accruing to Seychelles as a result of the presence of foreign vessels;

  4. Assisting with the implementation and evaluation of the fisheries agreements;

  5. Monitoring and reporting on all funds received under the fisheries agreements.

  6. Assessing loans application for the fisheries projects and making recommendations;

  7. Preparing of quarterly and annual reports;

  8. Liaising between SFA's partners on matters pertaining to coordination of SFA projects and ;

  9. Assuming the role of SFA's desk-officer for the foreign loans and grants, as well as ensuring all requirements are met.

 

Statistics Management

Statistics Division

The Role of Statistics management is to collect fisheries data with the objective to ensure appropriate management of fishery resources in Seychelles. Data collected consist of catch, fishing effort, length frequency and are used by scientist for stock assessment, government official and policy makers. The data are published in Statistical bulletin and Technical reports which are then distributed to fishing companies, government organizations, NGO`s, international organizations and are also available on the website.
