The Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA) hosted a spectacular cocktail ceremony to honor its 40th anniversary, marking four decades of dedication to sustainable fishing practices and marine conservation. The event, held at Savoy Resort, gathered fishing industry stakeholders, government officials, and esteemed guests, all coming together to celebrate the SFA’s achievements and future endeavors.

The ceremony was highlighted by the launch of the authority’s new brand. This was the unveiling of a sleek new logo that symbolizes the SFA’s commitment to preserving marine resources while embracing innovation. The logo reflects the essence of Seychelles’ rich marine heritage and the authority’s mission to ensure sustainable fishing practices for generations to come. Guests were enthusiastic about the design, which encapsulates the authority’s vision and goals.

The rebranding initiative also included the launch of a newly designed website. The updated website aims to enhance user experience, offering a comprehensive platform for information regarding the authority, its different departments, services, regulatory updates, and educational resources for both the public and industry stakeholders. With a modern and user-friendly interface, the website is set to serve as a vital tool in promoting transparency and accessibility in the fishing sector.

Further adding to the celebration was the unveiling of a new theme song through a live performance that encapsulates the spirit of the organization and the community it serves. The song ‘Nou lanmer’ by local artist Lauren Leon, speaks to the importance of marine conservation and the collective responsibility of all Seychellois in protecting their natural resources.

Another centerpiece of the evening was the unveiling of the new SFA building to be built next to SFA’s headquarters. The building is expected to house SFA’s parent Ministry, the IOTC office and all other departments currently located elsewhere.

The evening also included speeches from key officials, who reflected on the incredible journey of the SFA over the past four decades. They highlighted the significant strides made in sustainable fishing practices and the authority’s ongoing commitment to inspire a culture of sustainability and collaboration within the fishing community and beyond. The event was not only a celebration of past achievements but also an opportunity to set ambitious goals for the future of Seychelles’ fishing industry.

Additionally, the ceremony was an opportunity to celebrate the winners of various competitions held as the lead-up activities to the anniversary. These included a song competition, poster competition, Dan Kazye Family Quiz and Internal quiz. Excited winners were honored for their creativity and commitment.

The ceremony ended on a high note, rewarding one of our longest-serving staff, Mrs. Claire Pierre-Louis who has been working at SFA for 37 years. It was surely a night to remember.
