Seychelles Maritime Week 2024 was not only a vital venue for promoting maritime enterprises and fostering local businesses, but it also facilitated invaluable information exchange and strengthened regional collaborations. At the heart of the event was an international conference held at the luxurious Savoy Hotel, which featured a compelling keynote address by Captain Christopher Renaud, the SFA’s Head of Department for Port Management and Facilities.

Captain Renaud’s presentation, entitled “Value Creation Through Planned Port Investment,” provided an in-depth exploration of the national fisheries sector. He shared insightful data concerning catch quantities and examined the broader economic implications tied to these figures. His talk emphasized the critical role played by the Seychelles Fisheries Authority, particularly highlighting the operational significance of both the Providence Fishing Port and the Victoria Fishing Port. He also opened up discussions around prospective developments, focusing on the anticipated expansion of the Providence Fishing Port, which aims to enhance capacity and efficiency.

In tandem with the conference proceedings, an engaging exhibition was organized, providing a platform for participants to showcase and promote their diverse products and services. The SFA set up an interactive stall that drew considerable attention, manned by a dedicated team comprising Mrs. Christianne Sultan, Mr. Antoine Barbe, and Mr. Ronny Alcindor. They eagerly welcomed visitors from various countries and local institutions, offering insight into the SFA’s initiatives and maritime activities.

The Seychelles Maritime Week 2024 marked a historic milestone for the nation as it hosted this acclaimed event for the first time. It served as a catalyst for ongoing discussions centered around the sustainable and efficient utilization of port and logistics facilities. Participants left with a wealth of knowledge, and the partnerships established during the week are expected to propel positive advancements in the management of marine resources long after the conclusion of the event. Overall, this gathering not only fostered regional collaboration but also strengthened the commitment to sustainable fisheries and marine resource management, shaping a brighter future for the maritime sector in Seychelles and beyond.
