The Aquaculture Department of the Seychelles Fisheries Authority (SFA) has launched its first educational comic book titled, ‘Zak – Adventure in Aquaculture’. This 20-page comic book, written and illustrated by Peter Lalande, was officially launched today, Thursday 14th November 2024 at the National Library by the Minister for Fisheries and the Blue Economy, Minister Jean-François Ferrari, in the presence of the French Ambassador Olivia Berkeley Christmann, the Chief Executive Officer of Seychelles Fisheries Authority Dr Jan Robinson and other invitees.
The comic book tells the story of a young boy named Zak and his pet bird, Magpie, as they explore the world of Aquaculture through a tour guided by Veronica, a young lady from the Aquaculture Department. This comic book targeting a younger audience group, will allow the aquaculture department to share its aquaculture message with the primary school level students.
When launching the book, Minister Ferrari congratulated the department on this initiative and encouraged others to follow with such initiatives.
The comic book, conceptualized by artists Mr. Lalande and Mrs. Veroniqua Uzice-Alphonse from the Aquaculture Department, has been funded by the European Union. Its launch comes at a crucial moment as the department ramps up its efforts to encourage young people to pursue careers in aquaculture.
