On Thursday 21st November 2024, staff from various departments participated in a fisheries exhibition held at the Camion Hall Garden. This one-day event was organized to celebrate World Fisheries Day, which occurs annually on November 21st.
The exhibition highlighted the different career opportunities available at Seychelles Fisheries Authority (SFA). The exhibition also showcased successful initiatives and innovations in fisheries management and promoted sustainable practices such as the Mahe Plateau co-management plan and bamboo fish traps.
In addition to SFA, representatives from the Ministry of Fisheries and the Blue Economy and the Seychelles Maritime Academy were also present.
The exhibition was officially opened by the Minister for Fisheries and the Blue Economy. Minister Jean Francois Ferrari during a brief ceremony. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of balancing economic growth with conservation efforts.
The World Fisheries Day exhibition attracted a crowd that included students from various schools, stakeholders from the fishing industry, and members of the public, all of whom showed significant interest in the showcase.
Alongside the fisheries exhibition, other activities were held throughout the week to celebrate fisheries under the theme, “Blue Transformation in Action,”. This included talks held at local schools, short television segments emphasizing the importance of consuming good-quality fish, and a televised debate discussing the evolution of fisheries over the years.
