Seychelles is set to participate in this year’s Seafood Global EXPO that will be held in Barcelona between 6th to 8th May 2025. Participation from Seychelles will include members of the Association of Fish Processors Seychelles (AFPES) and the Seychelles Fisheries Authority (SFA), specifically its Product Development and Quality Assurance Department.

The SFA and AFPES recently signed the memorandum of understanding concretizing their partnership for the EXPO. SFA is supporting the private sector to participate in the event by allocating a budget of SCR 500,000 to cater for Seychelles’ exhibition. The participants will be showcasing high-quality products from Seychelles’ waters, specifically our renowned grade A, yellowfin Tuna as sashimi for tasting.

The Chief Executive Officer of the SFA, Dr. Jan Robinson, who will be part of the county’s delegation at the event, has emphasized the importance of sustainability this year. “The last few years we’ve been to Barcelona, the status of the yellow fin stock has been in the red, and this year the stock has recovered and it is in the green. So, we are hoping now that this will push up the demand for yellowfin tuna in European markets. We’re now able to say that we are exporting a sustainable product through the rebuilding, so it is a very positive story we’re going with this year.” he said.

The chairperson of AFPES, Mr. Louis Bossy is grateful for SFA’s support, saying it will be a huge help to achieve their target. “Our wish is to show the world that Seychelles has a product that is unique and high value. The way to do that is for the people to see and taste these products.”

During the EXPO the participants will be able to form new contacts, explore new markets and take a look at opportunities for export.  It will also be an opportunity for the participants to get exposed to new tools and equipment.
