The Fisheries Resources Management Department officially launched an innovative educational comic book titled “Mahe Plateau Dossier.” This initiative aims to promote awareness and understanding of the Mahe Plateau’s rich natural resources among young learners, fostering a sense of environmental stewardship from an early age.

The launching ceremony was held on Friday 01st Aug at the National Library in the presence of the Minister for Fisheries and the Blue Economy, Minister Jean-François Ferrari, French Ambassador Olivia Berkeley Christmann, the Chief Executive Officer of Seychelles Fisheries Authority and other invitees.

As part of its broader education and awareness campaign, the SFA enlisted the talents of Mr. Peter Lalanne, a renowned writer and storyteller, to produce this engaging educational tool. The comic book is designed to captivate primary school students while imparting vital knowledge about the Mahe Plateau, a vital ecological and economic zone.

The development of “Mahe Plateau Dossier” is rooted in the collaborative efforts of the Implementation Committee for the Co-Management Plan (ICCP) to ensure the sustainable management of the Plateau’s resources, balancing ecological preservation with community development. This comic book is a strategic component of their outreach, aiming to communicate key messages in a simple, entertaining format that resonates with young audiences.

The story follows the adventures of Zak, a curious and energetic young boy who explores the wonders of the Mahe Plateau. Through his journey, students learn about the Plateau’s diverse ecosystems, marine life, conservation efforts, and the importance of responsible resource management.  The narrative not only educates but also inspires children to appreciate the value of environmental preservation.

The “Mahe Plateau Dossier” marks the seventh installment in a popular series of educational comic books authored by Mr. Lalanne. It will be distributed to primary schools across Seychelles and will also be available at the National Library, ensuring broad access for students and educators alike.
