The Product Development and Quality Assurance department within the Seychelles Fisheries Authority (SFA) hosted a transformative week-long training program for a diverse group of women from September 15th to 19th, 2025. This initiative aimed to educate participants on the essentials of fisheries product development as part of a broader specialized training program focused on Fisheries Business Management, specifically tailored for Seychellois women.
Throughout the week, participants engaged in comprehensive training sessions covering critical areas essential for success in the fisheries sector, including financial management, strategic marketing, sales techniques, entrepreneurship fundamentals, sustainable aquaculture practices, and effective fish processing methods. The curriculum is designed not only to impart theoretical knowledge but also to equip women with practical skills necessary for thriving in the fisheries value chain, thereby empowering them to take on greater leadership roles within the industry.
During their immersive experience at SFA, participants were actively involved in hands-on workshops where they learned the intricacies of preparing fish products, innovative packaging techniques, and proper labeling methods. These practical sessions allowed them to gain firsthand experience and develop feasible business models that can be implemented within their communities.
This initiative was organized with the generous support of SeyCCAT under the Blue Grants Fund, and the program was facilitated by industry experts in business and fisheries management. The diverse group of participants included established women entrepreneurs, aspiring business owners seeking to carve their niche, cooperative society members, and influential community leaders committed to driving local economic growth.
By promoting gender inclusion and sustainable development within Seychelles’ blue economy, this program signifies a strategic and impactful move. It aims to encourage innovation and boost resilience across our coastal communities, ensuring that women are empowered to contribute meaningfully to the sector while fostering a sustainable future for Seychelles’ rich marine resources.
