To celebrate four years since the official launch of the aquaculture industry in Seychelles, the Aquaculture Department hosted an Aquaculture Research Day Workshop on Friday 17th October 2025 at Savoy Resort and Spa. The event aimed to highlight both ongoing and completed research initiatives, as well as to showcase key developments within the Seychelles aquaculture sector. It also served as a platform for knowledge sharing and dialogue among researchers, stakeholders, and partners.
During the workshop, staff from the aquaculture department presented an overview of ongoing and successful experiments conducted at the facilities. Many attendees found the session informative, expressing surprise at the range of research activities underway. Several noted that this highlights untapped opportunities within the sector and suggested that more people should consider investing in aquaculture in Seychelles.
In his closing remarks, the CEO of SFA, Dr. Robinson, expressed satisfaction with the progress being made to establish clear standards for investors in the sector. “We have done more than many governments to prepare this sector for commercialization,” he said. “As a small country, it’s not easy for Seychellois investors to conduct research and bring in experts, it can be very costly. By laying the groundwork and providing the necessary information, we help them avoid unnecessary expenses. Even if large investors conduct their own research, our efforts are ultimately focused on supporting Seychellois investors.”
As part of its 4th anniversary celebration, the department hosted an open day on Thursday 16th October 2025, allowing the public to visit the aquaculture facilities at Providence. This included a tour of the Broodstock Acclimation and Quarantine Facility (BAQF), which features six quarantine tanks and four acclimation tanks.
There was also a series of quizzes on the Paradise FM radio station, which saw a healthy participation from the public, eager to share their answers and showcase their knowledge on the industry.
