The Seychelles Fisheries Authority (SFA), in partnership with the Ministry of Fisheries and the Blue Economy, hosted a remarkable event in celebration of World Food Day, intertwining it with the vibrant spirit of the Creole Festival. The activity was held on Friday 24th October 2025 at the SFA Headquarters.
The day’s highlight was an engaging “bring and buy” activity, where staff members showcased their creativity and culinary skills by offering a variety of locally produced and homegrown goods. Attendees could browse an impressive array of items, including ripe bananas and fresh coconuts, along with refreshing freshly pressed juices, jars of golden local honey, a delectable selection of cakes, and numerous other artisanal products that reflected the region’s rich agricultural heritage.
Following the market, the event transitioned into a lively lunch featuring a mouth-watering array of traditional Creole dishes. The menu was a feast for the senses, featuring the renowned salted beef curry, succulent grilled fish, and a flavorful local Creole sausage simmered in a rich tomato sauce known as ‘rougay sosis lokal.’ Attendees also savored the unique taste of salted fish chutney, which paired perfectly with sides of boiled breadfruit, tender boiled cassava, and hearty lentils. Each dish was prepared to perfection, ensuring that everyone left with a full stomach and a refreshed appreciation for Creole culinary traditions.
Staff members relished the opportunity to immerse themselves in the day’s activities, not only tasting but also sharing stories and experiences surrounding the diverse flavors that make up Creole cuisine.
As the sun set, the celebration continued with a spirited Creole ball held in the former training room. The lively atmosphere was charged with the sounds of energetic Creole music, as staff members danced joyfully into the night, fully embracing the cultural celebration that blended delicious food, community spirit, and vibrant music.
