Mr. Alain Decomarmond, the newly appointed Secretary of State for Fisheries and Blue Economy, embarked on his inaugural visit to the Seychelles Fisheries Authority.
During his first day Monday, 22nd December 2025, Mr. Decomarmond visited the SFA headquarters, where he met with dedicated staff members, fostering connections and showing his commitment to understanding the working environment of the authority. Following this, he convened with the extended management team in a meeting where he was briefed on various projects that are currently underway. This session was not only informative but also strategic, focusing on the key challenges faced by SFA and how Mr. Decomarmond can provide support moving forward.
On Tuesday 23rd December 2025, Mr. Decomarmond’s visit started at J&S House, where he engaged with staff from the Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance (MCS) and statistics departments. This engagement equipped him with a better understanding of the data analysis and compliance activities critical to fisheries management in Seychelles.
He also extended his visit to the fisheries research, fisheries management, and technical coordination departments and the property section at the Grace Building. There, he explored ongoing research initiatives and discussed the importance of scientific data in informing policy and decision-making.
Looking ahead, Mr. Decomarmond has plans to visit the Port Management and Facilities, as well as the Aquaculture departments at Providence, indicating a comprehensive approach to understanding the multifaceted operations of the fisheries sector.
This inaugural visit marked a significant step in aligning the government’s vision for the fisheries and blue economy with the operational realities faced by the SFA. Mr. Decomarmond’s commitment to engaging with the staff and understanding their challenges signals a promising path forward for the sustainable development of Seychelles’ vital fisheries resources.
