Seychelles Fisheries Authority (SFA), in partnership with Indian Ocean Tuna Ltd (IOT) and local artist Peter Lalande, officially donated copies of the educational cartoon book Zak and the Blue Gold to participating schools during a ceremony held on 14 July 2026 at the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development.

Principal Secretary for General Education and Curriculum, Dr Justin Zelime, welcomed the initiative, noting that the book will complement the Eco-School Programme and support learning in English, Science and Geography.

The book was developed to help children understand the importance of tuna, sustainable fisheries and the responsible management of Seychelles’ marine resources.

Speaking on behalf of SFA, Ms Elisa Radegonde highlighted the value of educating young people about ocean conservation. “By educating young people today, we are helping to nurture a generation that values and protects our ocean and its resources for the future,” she said.

The initiative reflects the strong partnership between SFA, IOT, the education sector and the local creative community in promoting environmental awareness among Seychelles’ youth.
