The Seychelles Fisheries Authority (SFA) proudly participated in the Seychelles 50th Jubilee Expo, held from 26 to 29 June 2026 at the Roche Caiman Sports Complex, where it welcomed visitors to an engaging and educational exhibition celebrating the country’s rich fisheries heritage and its vision for the future.
Under the theme “From Ocean Heritage to Blue Future: 40 Years of Fisheries Development in Seychelles,” the SFA exhibition offered visitors an immersive journey through the evolution of Seychelles’ fisheries sector.
Through interactive displays, visitors were taken through the early days of traditional fishing practices before exploring the remarkable growth of the tuna industry, the introduction of scientific research and sustainable fisheries management, and the Authority’s continued support to the local fishing community. The exhibition concluded by looking ahead to the future of fisheries, with a strong focus on innovation and the promising opportunities presented by aquaculture.
At the heart of the exhibition stood a beautifully displayed traditional pirogue, which quickly became the centrepiece and one of the Expo’s most popular attractions. The vessel drew visitors of all ages, with children particularly excited to take photographs alongside the iconic symbol of Seychelles’ fishing heritage. Throughout the four-day event, the pirogue served as a reminder of the country’s deep cultural connection to the sea and the generations of Seychellois who have depended on it for their livelihoods.
In line with its mandate to promote fish consumption, the SFA’s Product Development and Quality Assurance (PDQA) Department prepared and served a range of delicious fish-based canapés throughout the Expo. These culinary offerings were enthusiastically received by visitors, many of whom praised both the quality and taste of the locally prepared products.
The SFA exhibition was further strengthened by the participation of local fish processors Amirante Fisheries, Ocean Basket and Tropical Tuna, who offered an assortment of seafood products for sale. Their presence showcased the value-added potential of Seychelles’ fisheries sector while giving members of the public the opportunity to purchase and enjoy locally processed seafood.
Over the course of the four days, the SFA stand remained one of the busiest attractions at the Expo, welcoming a constant stream of visitors eager to learn about Seychelles’ fisheries sector. The combination of historical storytelling, educational exhibits, interactive activities, culinary experiences and industry participation created a vibrant showcase that appealed to people of all ages.
The Seychelles 50th Jubilee Expo provided an ideal platform for SFA to reinforce its commitment to ensuring that the country’s fisheries continue to be managed sustainably for future generations. Through innovation, science, community engagement and responsible resource management, the Authority remains dedicated to building a resilient and prosperous Blue Future for Seychelles.
